Merit Points

Tawaasal's merit system tracks the points you earn for positive behaviour, academic achievements, and other contributions. You can also see any demerit points recorded, your overall balance, earned milestones, and your position on the leaderboard.

Viewing Your Points​

  1. Navigate to My Merit Points from the sidebar.
  2. You will see your merit dashboard showing:
    • This Year — Your net points (merit minus demerit) for the current academic year.
    • Lifetime Total — Your net points across all academic years.
    • Rank — Your current leaderboard position, if leaderboards are enabled for your school.
  1. Open My Merit Points from the sidebar.
  2. Your progress toward the next milestone.
  3. Badges you have already earned.

Award History​

Below the summary, you can see a detailed history of all your awards:

  • Category — The type of award (e.g., "Academic Excellence", "Good Behaviour", "Helping Others").
  • Points — The number of points awarded.
  • Awarded By — The teacher who gave you the award.
  • Date — When the award was given.
  • Notes — Any comments the teacher included.
Filter Your History

Use the time period filter (All Time, Last 24 Hours, Last Week, Last Month, This Term, or This Year) to focus on a particular time frame.

Milestones​

Your school may set milestone achievements that you earn automatically when your merit balance reaches certain thresholds. For example:

  • Bronze Award — 50 points
  • Silver Award — 100 points
  • Gold Award — 200 points

When you earn a milestone, you will see it displayed with a badge. Milestones are earned once per academic year.

Leaderboard​

Depending on your school's settings, you may be able to see a leaderboard showing how your merit balance compares to other students. The leaderboard may be:

  • Public — You can see everyone's position and name.
  • Anonymised — You can see rankings but not names.
  • Own Position Only — You can only see your own rank.
  1. Open Leaderboard from the sidebar.
  2. See how your merit balance compares to your peers.
  3. Each row shows a student's rank, merit points, behaviour points, net total, and number of awards.
Not All Schools Enable Leaderboards

If you do not see a leaderboard, it means your school has configured the merit system without a visible leaderboard for students. You can still see your own points and milestones.

Understanding Merit and Demerit​

  • Merit points are positive — they reward good behaviour, academic success, participation, and helpfulness.
  • Demerit points are recorded for behavioural issues such as lateness, uniform violations, or disruptions.

Both types appear in your history so you have a complete picture of your record.

Tips​

  • Stay positive — Focus on earning merit points through good behaviour, academic effort, and helping others.
  • Check your balance — Review your points regularly to track your progress toward milestones.
  • Set goals — Aim for the next milestone threshold as a motivating target.
  • Learn from demerits — If you receive demerit points, reflect on what happened and how to avoid it in the future.
