Classes & Subjects

Classes and subjects are the foundation of your school's academic structure in Tawaasal. The Classes page lets you create and organise classes by grade level and section, while the Subjects page lets you define the subjects your school teaches. You can then link them together by assigning subjects to classes and assigning teachers to each class-subject pairing.

Accessing Classes

  1. Log in as a school administrator.
  2. Navigate to Classes from the sidebar.

  • Filter by grade level — Choose a specific grade (1--12) to narrow the list.
  • Search — Use the search bar to find classes by name.

Assigning Subjects to Classes

Once you have created classes and subjects, you need to link them together:

  1. Go to the Classes page.
  2. Find the class you want to configure.
  3. Click the Manage Subjects icon (book icon) in the actions column.
  4. A modal opens showing two sections:
    • Assigned Subjects — Subjects already linked to this class, along with the assigned teacher and weekly hours.
    • Available Subjects — Subjects that can be added to this class.
  5. Click Assign next to any available subject to add it to the class.
  6. To remove a subject, click the X button next to the assigned subject.

Assigning Teachers to Class-Subject Pairings

After assigning subjects to a class, you can specify which teacher teaches each subject:

  1. In the Manage Subjects modal, find the assigned subject.
  2. Click the Edit icon next to the subject.
  3. In the teacher assignment modal:
    • Teacher — Select a teacher from the dropdown, or leave unassigned.
    • Weekly Hours — Set the number of hours per week for this subject in this class.
  4. Click Save to apply.
Unassigned Subjects

Subjects marked as "Unassigned" will appear with a warning indicator. Make sure all subjects have a teacher assigned before the academic year begins, as this information drives the timetable and attendance tracking.

Tips

  • Set up subjects first — Create all subjects before creating classes, so they are ready to assign.
  • Use consistent naming — Establish a naming convention for classes (e.g., "Grade 5 - Section A") to keep the list organised.
  • Review assignments at the start of each term — Teachers may change between terms, so review and update class-subject-teacher assignments regularly.
  • Use bulk actions for large changes — When restructuring classes at the start of a new academic year, bulk operations save time.
