Settings
The Settings area allows you to configure school-wide preferences that affect how Tawaasal works for everyone at your school. Only school administrators have access to these settings.
Accessing Settings
- Log in as a school administrator.
- Click your account card at the bottom of the sidebar, then select General.
Language Configuration
Tawaasal supports 11 languages (English, Arabic, Urdu, German, Spanish, Persian, French, Hindi, Japanese, Portuguese, Turkish). Arabic, Persian, and Urdu use full right-to-left (RTL) layout support.
- Click your account card, then select General, and open the Language tab.
- Enable or disable individual languages for your school and set the default language.
- Individual users can override this in their own Preferences page.
- Open the Language tab.
- Search languages by name or code.
- Enable or disable a language for your school.
- Set as Default makes this the school default language.
When Arabic, Persian, or Urdu is selected, the entire interface automatically switches to a right-to-left layout. This includes navigation, forms, tables, and all content areas.
Roles and Permissions
Tawaasal comes with pre-defined roles (School Admin, Teacher, Student, Guardian, Staff) and a built-in set of permissions. You can view and customize what each role is allowed to do:
- Click your account card, then select Roles.
- Select a role's Edit action to view its current permissions.
- Toggle individual permissions on or off as needed.
- Create Role adds a new custom role.
- Edit permissions for the School Administrator role.
- Edit permissions for the Teacher role.
Common Permissions
| Permission | Description |
|---|---|
| View Users | See the user list and user profiles |
| Edit Users | Modify user details and role assignments |
| View Homework | See homework assignments |
| Create Homework | Create new homework assignments |
| View Attendance | See attendance records |
| Mark Attendance | Record daily attendance |
| View Grades | See grade records and report cards |
| Enter Grades | Enter and modify student grades |
| Manage Settings | Access school-wide settings |
When you modify a role's permissions, the change applies to all users with that role right away. Review your changes carefully, especially when removing permissions.
Security Settings
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
School administrators can configure MFA policies for their school:
- Optional MFA — Users can choose to enable MFA from their profile.
- Enforced MFA — All users (or specific roles) are required to set up MFA on their next login.
To configure MFA:
- Click your account card, then select General, and open the Security Policy tab (or contact your super administrator for tenant-level security settings).
- Set the MFA enforcement mode for your school. Per-role overrides let you require a stricter mode for specific roles.
Notification Templates
Tawaasal sends notifications via email, SMS, and push notifications for various events (homework created, attendance marked, announcements published, etc.). You can customize these templates:
- Click your account card, then select Templates.
- Browse the list of notification templates organized by category.
- Click Edit on a template to modify it.
- Use the rich text editor to modify the template content.
- Use template variables (shown in the editor) to insert dynamic content like student names, dates, and links.
- Review the live preview panel to see how the notification will look.
- Click Save Template to apply your changes.
- Create Template adds a new custom template.
- Switch to the Event Configuration tab to manage channels per event.
- Filter templates by category.
- Preview shows how a template renders.
- Edit opens the template editor.
Template variables are placeholders like {{ student_name }} or {{ due_date }} that get replaced with real data when the notification is sent. The available variables are listed in the template editor for each template type.
Event Configuration
For each notification event (e.g., "Homework Created"), you can configure:
- Which channels are enabled — Email, SMS, push, or in-app notifications.
- Which template to use for each channel.
Click your account card, then select Templates, and open the Event Configuration tab to manage these settings.
Data Management
Data Import and Export
School administrators can import and export data through the Data area:
- Navigate to Data from the sidebar.
- On the Import & Export tab, choose to Import data (upload a spreadsheet) or Export data (download records).
Data Retention
For compliance with data protection regulations, school administrators can configure data retention policies:
- Navigate to Data > Retention.
- On the Policies tab, review and set retention periods for different data categories.
- Open the Retention tab.
- The Policies sub-tab lists retention periods by data category.
- Run Enforcement Now starts a manual retention enforcement run.
Some settings features (such as custom notification templates and advanced security policies) may be available only on higher subscription tiers (Professional or Enterprise). Contact your super administrator for information about your school's subscription.
Tips
- Review settings at the start of each academic year — Ensure your calendar, roles, and templates are up to date.
- Test notification templates — Use the preview and test-send features before making templates live.
- Document your permission changes — Keep a record of any custom permission configurations for reference.
- Enable MFA — Multi-factor authentication significantly improves account security, especially for administrator accounts.
