Attendance and Leave Requests
Tawaasal lets you monitor your children's attendance alerts and submit leave requests when they need to be absent from school.
Viewing Attendance Alerts
- Navigate to Children's Attendance from the sidebar.
- You will see recent absence, late-arrival, and excused-absence alerts for your children, newest first:
- Late — Your child arrived after the expected time (the alert names the reason, e.g. "Late arrival").
- Excused — Your child had an approved absence (linked to an approved leave request).
- Absent — Your child was not in school and no approved leave was recorded.
- Click Refresh to check for new alerts.
- Open Children’s Attendance from the sidebar.
- Recent alerts are listed newest first, with the child’s name and class.
- Refresh checks for any alerts that came in since the page loaded.
Depending on your school's notification settings, you may receive an alert when your child is marked absent. Check your Preferences to ensure attendance notifications are enabled.
Submitting a Leave Request
If your child will be absent from school, you can submit a leave request in advance:
- Navigate to Leave Requests from the sidebar.
- Click the Submit Leave Request button.
- Fill in the details:
- Child — Select the child the request is for (if you have multiple children).
- Start Date — The first day of the absence.
- End Date — The last day of the absence.
- Reason Category — Choose the most appropriate reason:
- Illness
- Medical Appointment
- Family Emergency
- Religious Observance
- Vacation/Travel
- Other
- Reason Details — Provide a clear explanation for the absence.
- Attach Documents (optional) — Upload supporting documents such as a medical certificate or appointment letter. You can attach up to 5 files (PDF or images, max 5 MB each).
- Click Submit.
- Open Leave Requests from the sidebar.
- Submit Leave Request opens the request form.
- Filter your existing requests by status.
Submit leave requests as far in advance as possible. This gives the school time to plan and helps ensure your request is reviewed promptly.
Tracking Leave Request Status
After submitting, you can check the status of your request:
- Pending — Waiting to be reviewed by the school.
- Approved — The request has been approved. Attendance for those days will be marked as Excused.
- Rejected — The request was not approved. You can see the reason for rejection.
- Cancelled — You cancelled the request before it was reviewed.
Cancelling a Leave Request
If your plans change:
- Find the leave request in your list.
- Click Cancel (only available for Pending requests).
Once a request has been approved or rejected, it cannot be cancelled.
You cannot submit a leave request for dates that overlap with an existing pending or approved request for the same child. If you need to extend an absence, cancel the original request (if still pending) and submit a new one with the correct dates.
Tips
- Check attendance alerts regularly — A regular review helps you spot patterns (frequent lateness, unexpected absences) early.
- Provide documentation — Attaching supporting documents (such as a doctor's note) increases the likelihood of your request being approved.
- Communicate with the school — If your child has a recurring medical condition that causes frequent absences, inform the school through the Messages feature so they are aware of the situation.
- Monitor multiple children — If you have more than one child, alerts for all of them appear together in the same list, each labelled with the child's name.
